Business Wi-Fi for warehouses, clinics and multi-floor offices.

The building decides the design. The access points that cover an open-plan office will leave holes in a warehouse or a clinic. Here is what fails in each type of site, and what the fix looks like.

  • Warehouses and sheds. High racking and stock block the signal, and one access point at the office end does not reach the far dock. The fix is an on-site heat-map survey ($2,750 ex GST to 1,000 square metres, plus $880 for each extra 1,000 square metres or floor) so the count and the placement are measured, not guessed. Sheds, workshops and yards are the same problem with a tin roof on top.
  • Clinics and practices. Brick and concrete walls, many small rooms, and patient phones on the same network as the practice systems. Signal falls off room to room. The fix is enough access points to cover every room, plus a guest network on its own VLAN so visitor devices never touch the practice data.
  • Multi-floor offices. Floor slabs kill the signal between levels, and a phone carried up the stairs clings to the access point downstairs until the call drops. The fix is an access-point plan for each floor and roaming set up properly, so devices hand off to the nearest unit as staff move. Each extra floor is measured in the survey.
  • Small single-room offices. A survey may not be needed, and we will say so. A site base ($550) plus the access points the room needs ($440 each) is the whole job.

What a UniFi install includes.

UniFi is good gear that is easy to install badly. A stack of access points on default settings, one flat network, no VLANs and firmware nobody updates is why people think their Wi-Fi is bad when it is only unconfigured.

  • Set up the way it is meant to run. Proper SSIDs and VLANs, a separate guest network, sensible security and tidy adoption.
  • A controller you own. Self-hosted on your own hardware, a cloud key, or the hosted option. We explain the trade-off for your site rather than defaulting to whatever is easiest for us.
  • Documented at handover. Network map and credentials handed to you, so the next person is not starting from zero.
  • Existing UniFi taken over. We adopt what is already on the wall into a controller you own, tidy the configuration, patch the firmware and document it.

// Why it drops out

Roaming, channels and the extender trap.

Slow business Wi-Fi is usually one of three things: extenders, devices that cling, or the wrong radio settings. None of them is fixed by a louder router.

  • Extenders halve your speed. A plug-in extender receives and resends on the same radio, so every packet crosses the air twice. That is roughly half the usable speed gone, on top of the weak signal it was fed. It adds bars, not capacity. A network that grew one extender at a time is a common reason we get called.   • Devices cling. A phone connects to the access point by the front desk, its owner walks to the back office, and the phone holds the distant unit at one bar instead of moving to the strong one overhead. Business access points fix this with a minimum signal threshold (min-RSSI): the AP drops a device that has wandered too far, so it reconnects to a closer one. Roaming only works when there is a better AP to roam to, which is why placement comes first.
  • Wider channels are not faster. On 2.4GHz there are only three clean channels (1, 6 and 11), and every neighbour, old camera and smart plug is on them. We lock 2.4GHz to 20MHz and pick the least busy channel. On 5GHz, 80MHz is the steady choice. 160MHz needs a clean slice of spectrum that is rarely available, and it stutters when it falls back.
  • Louder is not clearer. Turning transmit power to maximum makes the AP shout further, but a phone cannot shout back. Devices connect at three bars and then drop packets. We set the power to match the devices, which also lets them let go and roam. The three settings and the order to change them are in improve your Wi-Fi signal: the three settings that fix it.
  • A wired access point beats all of it. A cable to a properly placed access point gives the far end a full-strength radio with nothing to repeat. A cable run to 30 metres is inside the per-AP install price.

  • Site base, $550. Gateway or controller setup, SSIDs, VLANs and a guest portal.
  • Per access point, $440. Cable run to 30 metres, mount, terminate, adopt and test.
  • Worked example. A three-AP office is $550 plus $1,320, so $1,870 ex GST for the labour and cabling. Hardware on top at cost plus margin.
  • Bigger or trickier sites get a survey first so the count is right, not a guess.

How much does business Wi-Fi cost to install?

Our install is a $550 site base plus $440 per access point, ex GST. The base covers the gateway or controller, SSIDs, VLANs and a guest portal; the per-AP figure covers the cable run to 30 metres, the mount, termination, adoption and testing. Hardware is quoted separately at cost plus a stated margin.

Do I need a site survey first?

For a small office, usually not. For a warehouse, a clinic, anywhere with brick or concrete, or any multi-floor site, a survey pays for itself by getting the access-point count and placement right the first time. See our Wi-Fi heat maps and site surveys.

Can you fix Wi-Fi you did not install?

Yes. A lot of our Wi-Fi work is fixing someone else's. We are happy to work on whatever is already on the wall, and tell you honestly whether it is worth keeping or replacing.

What causes Wi-Fi dead spots?

Usually too few access points, poor placement, the wrong channels, or a single consumer router trying to cover a space it was never built for. A heat-map survey shows exactly where the signal falls off and why.

Do you install business Wi-Fi in warehouses?

Yes. Warehouses are one of the site types where a survey pays for itself. High racking and more than one floor block the signal, so the access-point count has to be measured. How many access points does an office need?

It depends on the floor area, the walls, the number of devices and the number of floors, so we do not give a number without seeing the site. A small single-room office may not need a survey, and we will say so. For anything larger, a predictive survey ($550 ex GST, credited in full against any install over $2,000) gives you the count and the placement before you buy hardware.

Can you replace our extenders with a proper system?

Yes. Extenders repeat the signal on the same band, which roughly halves throughput, and devices cling to them. We replace them with cabled access points on one network name so devices roam cleanly, and we tell you honestly whether any of the existing gear is worth keeping.
