// Managed Wi-Fi, Sydney

Managed Wi-Fi that sorts itself before you call.

We monitor, patch and tune your wireless network for a flat monthly fee, so a firmware bug or a failing access point is our problem to spot, not yours.

A good Wi-Fi install is not the end of the story. Firmware needs updating, access points occasionally fail, and the network you set up for twenty people is now carrying forty. Managed Wi-Fi keeps it healthy without you having to think about it.

We watch every access point, keep firmware current, make the configuration changes you ask for, and send a plain monthly report. When something starts to go wrong, we usually see it before your staff do.

We are Wi-Fi specialists. We recommend and deploy UniFi because the price-to-performance is hard to beat for business, but we are vendor agnostic: we design, install and fix any vendor's gear, including Ruckus, Aruba, TP-Link Omada, Cisco and Meraki. You are not locked into one badge.

// The report

What the monthly report shows.

A monthly report is only useful if it tells you something you would act on. Ours is short, in plain English, and it covers the things that go wrong quietly.

  • Access-point health. Which units stayed up all month, which dropped and for how long, and any unit that needs attention before it fails outright.
  • Firmware status. The version on every access point, what was updated during the month and anything held back on purpose because the release was not ready.
  • Usage. How many devices connected, which access points carried the load, and where the busy spots are, so you know when the network you set up for twenty people is carrying forty.
  • Channels and interference. Where the channels are congested and what we changed to keep the signal clean, because a network that slows down after lunch is usually a channel problem, not a coverage problem.
  • What changed. Every configuration change you asked for, listed, so there is a record of who wanted what and when it was done.

// Multi-site

Managed Wi-Fi across several sites.

A second or third site is where managed Wi-Fi earns its keep. One accountable provider across every site is easier than three.

  • One controller. Where every site's access points sit on one controller, the same SSIDs, VLANs and guest settings apply everywhere and a change is made once.
  • One report. All sites in the same monthly report, so the branch with the failing access point is visible next to the one that is fine.
  • Distance does not count against you. Monitoring, firmware and configuration changes are done remotely, so the second and third sites are not penalised for being further away. On-site visits, when a unit has to be replaced, are billed at $140 per hour.
  • Pricing. The $55 and $110 tiers are by access-point count. Larger networks and multi-site networks are quoted.

Where we cover on-site and what remote honestly means is on service areas.

// Taking over

Taking over a network we did not install.

We manage networks we did not install. The condition is business-grade gear on a controller we can reach. Here is what that means in practice.

  • Business-grade gear. UniFi, Ruckus, Aruba, TP-Link Omada, Cisco or Meraki access points. Not a consumer router with extenders, because those give us nothing to monitor and no way to make changes remotely.
  • A controller we can reach. A controller or management dashboard that you own and can give us admin access to. If the previous installer kept the controller and the credentials, the first job is getting them back, or adopting the gear into a controller you own.
  • The adoption visit. We check every access point, adopt it into the controller, tidy the configuration, patch the firmware and document what is there. This is on-site work and is billed at $140 per hour. After that, the monthly fee starts.
  • When it is not manageable. If it is consumer equipment held together with extenders, we tell you honestly what it would take to make it manageable. Usually that is a proper install, from $550 site base plus $440 per access point ex GST on the business Wi-Fi page, and managed Wi-Fi starts after that.

// Inclusions

What the monthly fee covers.

Indicative pricing ex GST.

  • Monitoring. Every access point watched, so a failing unit is flagged, not discovered by a complaint.
  • Firmware. Updates tested and applied on a schedule, because an unpatched access point is a security and stability risk.
  • Config changes. New SSIDs, guest settings and tweaks handled as you ask.
  • Monthly report. Health, usage and anything worth knowing, in plain English.
  • Not included. Hardware replacement and on-site visits, billed at $140 per hour when needed.

Managed Wi-Fi folds neatly into a full managed IT plan if you would rather have one provider accountable for everything.

// Questions

Managed Wi-Fi, your questions answered.

What is managed Wi-Fi?

We take on the running of your wireless network for a monthly fee: monitoring, firmware, configuration changes and a monthly health report. You stop being the person who notices the Wi-Fi is playing up.

What does managed Wi-Fi cost?

It is $55 per month ex GST for up to five access points, or $110 per month ex GST for up to fifteen. Larger sites are quoted. Hardware replacement and on-site visits are billed separately at $140 per hour.

What is included?

Monitoring of every access point, firmware kept current, configuration changes you request, and a monthly report on health and usage. What is not included is hardware replacement and on-site work, which are billed as needed.

Do you manage Wi-Fi you did not install?

Usually yes, provided it is business-grade gear on a controller we can reach. If it is consumer equipment held together with extenders, we will tell you honestly what it would take to make it manageable.

Is managed Wi-Fi included in a managed IT plan?

Managed Wi-Fi folds into a full managed IT plan, so one provider is accountable for the wireless network along with everything else. Ask for the combined figure when you get a quote.

Do you support Meraki or Aruba under managed Wi-Fi?

Yes. We are vendor agnostic and manage UniFi, Ruckus, Aruba, TP-Link Omada, Cisco and Meraki. The condition is the same for any vendor: business-grade gear on a controller or management dashboard that you own and can give us access to. Tell us what you run and we confirm it before quoting.
